Root Coverage Graft
This procedure is preformed to cover unattractive exposed tooth roots and increase the thickness and strength of the attached gum tissue. This treatment will improve teeth esthetics, stop the progression of any future gum recession, and protect the roots from decay (cavities) and increased sensitivity to cold and hot temperatures.
The soft tissue graft, which is a thin piece of gum tissue, is taken from your own mouth (usually the roof of the mouth) or from a donor source. It is placed over the exposed root surface to cover the recession. In time, it will blend with your own existing gum tissue.
