Education and Training
Dr. Sperling completed her specialty training in Periodontics and Dental Implant Surgery at New York University (NYU), learning from internationally renowned leaders in the field. Prior to NYU, she earned a Clinical Master’s Degree in Perio-Pathology from Tel-Aviv University in Israel with highest honors, and a Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD) degree from the same institution. She also practiced as a general dentist, gaining broad clinical experience before focusing on periodontology.

Professional Philosophy
Guided by the belief that “knowledge is power and education is the premise of progress,” Dr. Sperling is deeply committed to lifelong learning and teaching. She lectures regularly on periodontics, dental implants, and oral health to fellow professionals and the community.

Personal Life
Dr. Sperling lives in Vienna, Virginia, with her husband, their three daughters, and three much-loved cats. Outside of her practice, she enjoys family time, outdoor adventures, running, and high-intensity interval training (HIIT). She also loves relaxing at the beach and exploring new destinations around the world.

Dr. Shan-Huey (Erin) Yu is a Board Certified Periodontist and expert in Dental Implant Surgery based in Virginia. She earned her Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS) from National Taiwan University in Taipei, followed by a two-year general dentistry residency. She later completed her advanced specialty training in Periodontics and a Master of Science degree at the University of Michigan, Ann Arbor.

Education and Training
Dr. Yu brings a robust blend of clinical, research, and academic expertise to her practice, with over 20 peer-reviewed publications in periodontology, dental implants, and advanced bone grafting techniques. She is an active member of the American Academy of Periodontology (AAP), and in 2020, was selected to collaborate on the AAP’s Best Evidence Consensus statement regarding periodontal tissue type modification.

Her dedication to advancing periodontal care has been recognized through prestigious awards, including the Richard J. Lazzara Fellowship Award and the Nevins BioHorizons Fellowship, both from the AAP Foundation.

Academic and Leadership Roles
Dr. Yu currently serves as Clinical Assistant Professor in the Department of Advanced Oral Sciences and Therapeutics at the University of Maryland School of Dentistry. She also holds a visiting faculty appointment at the University of Michigan School of Dentistry.

Personal Life
Residing in Alexandria, Virginia, with her husband and daughter, Dr. Yu enjoys playing tennis, watching great films, and exploring new restaurants—always on the hunt for the next great food spot.
