At Dr. Sperling's recommendation, I decided to have both sides of my mouth done in one surgery versus doing two surgeries. She explained that she had done it that way for this same surgery on her own gums. Prior to the surgery day, I was still nervous about that decision and the idea of having to keep my mouth open for 2.5 hours for the procedure. On surgery day I showed up feeling better after taking the sedative Dr. Sperling had prescribed. Then when I arrived at the office I was instructed to take the remaining sedative pill and after that I don't remember anything with the exception of bits and pieces of Dr. Sperling's voice during surgery, and then being at the office desk to pay on my way out. It was as good as general anesthesia! And because Dr. Sperling was able to use cadaver tissue instead of my own tissue, I feel that recovery has been easier than if the tissue from the roof of mouth was needed. One week later, and it's been a pain free experience. I've only used the prescribed steroid, and the homeopathic rinse and gel without needing to take the 800mg Ibuprofen for pain.
